The Nerdcore Hip Hop genre is briskly becoming popular among a new audience. Nerdcore hip hop is a sub genre of music where it's vocalists usually rhyme about subject matter centered around the interests of hobbyists, geeks and nerds such as science fiction, comic books, anime, video games, Martial Arts films, and more. The artists in the genre also rap over instrumentals either inspired by or sampled from video games, and sci-fi movies. Although the genre has been growing since the mid 90s and originated with acts such as MC Frontalot, and MC Chris and popularized by legendary artists such as Mega Ran and the late MF Doom there is one budding beatmaker / producer that is currently taking the genre to the next level by bridging the gap between the nerdcore music scene and traditional hip hop fans and artists and that composer goes by the name of Philonius Phunk.
Philonius Phunk is the founding member and resident producer of the popular Nerdcore rap band S.P.F. (Symphonic Pheenix Force) and has produced many songs for various indie hip hop recording artists such as rapper / R&B singer D-Hud, popular west coast act Birdy and most recently rising indie emcee A-Game.
