[BEAT TALK] Interview with Don Modus | Brooklyn, NY

In this edition of The Beat Talk series we speak with rising Brooklyn New York based clothing designer, entrepreneur, and rap artist Don Modus about our favorite subject.... BEATS of course.  Don Modus talks to us about his favorite producers, favorite beats, and more!  Read all about what he has to say and be sure to follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/donmodus/

The Beat YardWho is Don Modus
Don Modus:  I’m a rapper, producer and clothing designer hailing from Brooklyn New York. I’ve placed top 3 in multiple rap showcases, opened for Casanova at the Chance Theater and had my brand represented in fashion shows.

The Beat Yard:  What type of beats bring out the best in what you do as an artist?
Don Modus:  I really like when a beat has a choir or a vocal sample built into it. The best type of beats are the ones that use the voice as another instrument. Overall I like darker beats with high BPM, strong 808s and powerful synths.

The Beat Yard:  What sounds or instruments do you prefer when selecting instrumentals?
Don Modus:  Piano, synths, choir and sometimes woodwind or string instruments. Those last two are dependent on the track cause sometimes they sound trash and other times they sound amazing.

The Beat Yard:  What is your process for picking beats for a song or project?
Don Modus:  I’m a big believer in the head-bop test. You know what I’m saying when you hear a beat and your head instantly starts bobbing to the rhythm. When I hear a beat I like I get excited. I’ll usually freestyle some lyrics or at least to capture the flow. Then I lock in and bang out the lyrics in a session.

The Beat Yard:  Who are your favorite producers?
Don Modus:  Zaytoven for his piano work and how he helps out his community,  Metroboomin for his Melodies. I mentioned how I like dark beats, well metro is the best at those, and finally I also like Scott storch just because of his personality and his versatility. He’ll have sound packs from all different types of genres.

The Beat Yard:  Who are the producers that you work with?
Don Modus:  I’ve worked with Hitsbyjude, Ace Bankz, a bunch of random beatstars producers, and some of my friends. Hitsbyjude is a local Brooklyn producer and we actually cohabited for 6 months to create beats and new projects. I really encourage that to all the rappers and producers out there. Find someone with ambition and work off each other.

The Beat Yard:  Who are some producers that you would like to work with in the future?
Don Modus:  Murdabeatz, Zaytoven, Metro, South Side. All the legends.

The Beat Yard:  We see that you reached out to HitsByJude for your recent single "Peter Pan", what inspired you to select this beat?
Don Modus:  We actually made the beat together in our apartment studio. Like I mentioned before we lived together for about 6 months and this was one of my favorites that came out of that block.

The Beat Yard:
  Do you make beats yourself?
Don Modus:  I typically come up with melodies or select instruments for the beat and then let the professional take over. I do all of my own sound engineering, mixing and mastering. That being said, I have made a few beats and it’s something I want to get better at.

The Beat Yard:  How can producers or beat makers get in touch with you to send you tracks?
Don Modus:  Reach out to me on Instagram @donmodus or email me at donmodusmusic@gmail.com I’m always buying beats and looking for the next hitmaker to partner with.

The Beat Yard:  In your own words, what's the difference between a producer and a beat maker?  Which do you prefer?
Don Modus:  A producer goes beyond making the beat and will help out with audio engineering, mixing or mastering. In my mind a good producer is invested in the project and will help with the release plan as well. Being a regular beat maker is easy to achieve. You just need to throw some sounds together on splice and upload it to YouTube haha.

The Beat Yard: What's next for Don Modus
Don Modus:  Massive clothing collection featuring tee shirts, hoodies, jeans, women's items, and accessories coming soon. This will be launching on the new Web-shop alongside some adjoining media coverage. I’ve also got two other music videos called “Bout It” and “Clap For Me” that we shot in Atlanta and Miami streaming on YouTube. Go check everything out and thanks for having me!

[BUSINESS] Ieva Buko Breaks the Grass Ceiling in Europe with a Cannabis Concept Boutique | www.TheGreen.Boutique/

Ieva Buko Breaks the Grass Ceiling in Europe with a Cannabis Concept Boutique

With the Cannabis Industry´s undeniable potential still far from fulfilled Ieva Buko is demonstrated to be a protagonist in the scene opening The Green Boutique. The Green Boutique is a luxury cannabis ¨members only¨ boutique in Barcelona, but it´s far from what you have experienced before, if you are in to cannabis.

The Green Boutique, located in a prime location within the centre of Barcelona, is an avantgarde concept store where cannabis meets music, fashion, art and entertainment to create an experience for its members that they will always remember.

Interior design reflects opulence and comfort. It´s a cosy, safe and very social environment where the client can consume cannabis but socialize at the same time; it´s about making connections for a lifetime. Client oriented trained staff delivers the highest quality service, and obviously the highest quality product, to add to the green experience. The Green Boutique is quality of quantity. Events are key to keep the members informed about trends, music, products, world matters and innovations. It´s a place where members can spike their creativity.

Ieva Buko, with her clientele, breaks the stereotypes of the industry. The persona of the typical cannabis user has changed. In todays cannabis industry the clientele is highly educated, working in top notch jobs. They are simply interested in cannabis because they have discovered the benefits of the plant, nourishing their wellbeing, improving their work ethics, improving their creativity and in general improving the quality of life. There are numerous studies that confirm increased productivity and creativity.

When Ieva opened The Green Boutique back in 2019 she felt that the cannabis world needed something new, something that has not been done before. Studying the industry for many years, she felt that nothing represented the full power of the plant in a creative and connecting setting that represented the modern cannabis consumer. The Green Boutique connects the power of the plant with music, art and entertainment.

Now in 2021 after the challenging pandemic, The Green Boutique became a statement cannabis member boutique in Europe. Ieva is proud but this is only the start of much more to come. The goal is to become an international leading cannabis brand once the legal frame permit arrives, to create a variety of products in ways you won´t expect. Is this the proof that the cannabis industry needs a female touch?

About Ieva Buko

Ieva Buko, originally from Lithuania, lived in London and The Netherlands. Currently she resides in Barcelona, Spain and she is a loving mother and wife. [BEAT TALK] Interview with $hynePhre$h

In this edition of The BEAT TALK on THE BEAT YARD we are proud to sit down and chop it up with rising indie hip hop recording artist $hynePhre$h about our favorite subject... BEATS, among other things.  Get familiar with this authentic emcee and learn all about what makes him tick when select tracks for projects.

The Beat Yard:  What's up $hynePhre$h?

$hynePhre$h:  Tryna crack this code.

How would you sum up who you are as an artist in just a few short sentences?
Well I’d say, “I’m a breath of fresh air”. I’m the one who's gonna give you that rush when you turn me on. I’m music with substance; an authentic MC. I’m bringing value and longevity back to music. My sole mission as an artist is to put a sincere purpose back in this shit. That’s who I am and what I represent as an artist. And it’s ok to have fun with this shit, but most importantly, DON’T forget the assignment; and that’s to make MUSIC.

What projects are you currently working on?
Man I’m working on a different project everyday judging, I have a home studio. I have a whole slew of projects. Lots of “to-be” classics in there as well. I can honestly say that I have over 100 songs recorded and I have lots of favorites. So I’d just settle for letting the people decide which ones to vote in.

What producers are you working with?
Well right now, I’m just buying and leasing beats from Producers on Soundclick.com. There’s thousands of talented prospects there.

What producers would you like to work with in the future?
Timbaland, London on the Track, Jetson, K.E on the Track and of course Metro Boomin

What type of beats bring out the best in what you do?
To be honest, I am not accustomed to a certain style of beat. I can adapt to whatever. It’s just about what the track tells me to say. If you’re not a real musician, you wouldn’t understand this.

What types of sounds do you like hearing in certain tracks and instrumentals?
In certain tracks, I LOVE live guitars.

Are you looking for new beats in general, if so, how can producers or beatmakers reach out to you and what are you looking for?
I’m not looking to purchase any beats at the moment.

Who would you say are your three producers?  Doesn't matter if they are well known or underground....
London on the track, Jetson and K.E on the Track.

Do you make beats, if so how would you describe your sound?
Wish I could lol. But no.

What software or hardware do you use if you make your own beats?
I don’t make beats.

What's next for $hynePhre$h.
Hopefully, within the next 6 months or so, worldwide exposure.
